I guess this play had historical significance easing racial tensions or something like that, and the central message of it is noble - but as a musical I thought it was really pretty bad. Aside from several classic songs, it was way too long and boring, the whole idea of gangsters prancing around did not work at all in my opinion and just made them look gay, and the romance was too old fashioned to be in any way realistic today. I found myself laughing throughout the play to the point where it would have worked better as a comedy - except that isn't what they were going for at all. Sorry but there are way better musicals than this!
