Truman Coffee is situated on Shuangfeng Dao about 600m from Weijin Lu on the right. It was originally opened and run by an Australian guy and his Chinese partner, hence the selection of Aussie beers (including VB and Crown Lager) and the Australian radio channel that still survives in the place with the new Chinese owners.
Thankfully, they haven’t changed much at all. The menu (in Chinese and English) consists of numerous types of teas and coffee, real fruit milkshakes, a full bar menu and a wide variety of mostly reasonable Western food. This food includes salads, toasted sandwiches, fried breakfasts, meat pies, sausage rolls, spaghetti and burgers. The prices are slightly high in that the portions are not that big, but for Western food in Tianjin, the standard is above average and ideal for weekend hangovers. Examples of prices are 36 RMB for a cheeseburger and fries, 40 RMB for a meat pie and about 28 RMB for an all-day breakfast. Beer prices vary with bottled Qingdao at 12 RMB, Budweiser at 15 RMB, VB at 35 RMB and canned Boddingtons at 35 RMB. Coffees range from 10 to 25 RMB.
The place is clean, modern and spacious with some private booths available, and it manages to combine well a restaurant, coffee shop and bar. The toilet is a squatter and a urinal only, but is again kept very clean. There is also free Wi-Fi.

It’s surprising that this place is usually quiet, as the food and beer prices are comparatively good and the staff is friendly and helpful. However it makes a good start-off point for some decent refreshments before you push off elsewhere in Tianjin.
