I have a very love/hate relationship with Lonely Planet. Like Brian said, a lot of the information is outdated, and I can't always trust what's written. Thomas Kohnstamm is one notable ex-writer who admitted that he never went to Colombia, and he wrote the in-country guide!

Not always 100% accurate but the best on the market, Especially the maps are far better than those of footprint.

I've been pretty happy with Lonely Planet too, although there is a continual problem of information being slowly outdated. I keep thinking they will eventually need to move to an online model that is constantly updated.
