I like the idea of giving experiences rather than physical gifts. To often, Christmas gifts just accumulate around the house and are wasteful both in the physical sense (space) and monetary sense. As someone who travels light and lives minimally, I don't have much space to keep physical Christmas gifts and have to keep only the most practical ones (like clothes or books - although even those are increasingly moving to the Kindle and devices like that).
